I, being a student of ICARE-HUST (I201421145), participated in an International Competition on topic “Project Management Basics” in Ukraine, this year from July 2016 to August 2016. It was a summer school which was divided into different sessions like learning and training session, entertainment session, and group work session. There were total 27 participants from 13 countries: Azerbaijan, Romania, Belarus, Georgia, Pakistan, China, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, Germany, Ukraine, Holland, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Iran. I was representing China and Pakistan both on this educational platform because I was the only participant selected from Pakistan. Since I was a student of ICARE-HUST too, so I was representing HUST we well.

The participants were supposed to attend lecture every morning till after noon 2 o’clock. Since the event was organized at beautiful Odessa, Black Sea Beach, called as “Chayka” which was a kind of recreational center. After the lecture session, participants were allowed to do entertainment. The recreational center had been facilitated with sports grounds, and bars too. There was an excursion program arranged for the participants too. At the end of the Summer School, participant were divided into groups and competition was held among them on their chosen task for project management. The instructors were supposed to educate us about “Agile Software Development”. It describe and set of principles for software development under which requirements and solutions evolve through the collaborative effort of self-organizing cross-functional teams.  There were 4 teams.

My topic for the project management was “Wind Land at Chayka”. I and my team mates, who were from Azerbaijan, and Hong Kong (representing Germany as well), adopted the Scrum methodology, to fulfill and achieve our goal in shortest possible time. Scrum is an agile way to manage a project, usually software development. Agile software development with Scrum is often perceived as a methodology; but rather than viewing Scrum as methodology, think of it as a framework for managing a process.  We worked asked to do project management in Microsoft Project.

I am glad and feel honored that, I represented China and Pakistan both. I also secured second prize in the competition and had been awarded with the licensed certificate of “Project Management Basics” by Project Management Bureau- Ukraine.
I am pleased to share this news with Mr. Lan Hanghang of International Student Office. I am thankful to ISO for their support during this event. I am also thankful to my supervisor Prof. Yu Zhang and ICARE-HUST, especially Mrs. Liu Yang who was very cooperative and gave me valuable advices as well.
