The Conference for Chinese Language Students in 2018 Spring Semester & Awarding Ceremony is successfully held on June 20th in the International Student Activity Center. Nearly 200 Chinese language students from 13 classes attended the conference. Deputy Dean of the School of International Education Ms. Zhao Xiaofeng, and Ms. He Li, Ms. Xu Jiasi and Ms. Luo Panyu as well as all the other teachers from Center for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language attended the meeting. Ms. Chen Xi from ISO held the meeting.
Deputy Dean of the School of International Education Ms. Zhao made a speech, admitting the achievements of Chinese language students in the the semester and also expressed her sincere congratulations. She said, “I believe all the international students have had a wonderful time last semester and gained a lot. You speak better and better Chinese, make more and more friends and have a better understanding of Chinese culture. We hope you can become ambassadors of HUST and China, help to advance the communications between different cultures.”
Then, all the teachers and students reflected the rich and colorful extra-curricular activities last semester through the PPT, which included making Chinese knots, Peking Opera makeup, traditional Chinese painting and clothes, paper cutting etc. Cultural activities have not only enable the international students to grasp a deeper understanding towards Chinese culture, but also enhance the communication between classes, which are important complements to classroom learning.
Three types of individual awards and one collective award were used to congratulate excellent students, named as the Best Performance Award, the Perfect Attendance Award, the Greatest Improvement Award and the Best Class. Seventy-one students from nearly 50 countries are entitled. Ms. Zhao and other Chinese teachers presented the certificates to the students. Class B2 won the title of Best Class for their diligent attitude, and their monitor teacher. Ms. Yang Yi as the representative of Class B2 shared the moments about how the class learn together, play together, and share culture together, which had greatly touched the audience. "Not only did we have the attendance rate as nearly 100% of the whole class, but also the harmonious relationship between teachers and students. Students learnt helping each other in this great family.” Ms. Yang’s sharing greatly motivated students and teachers presented.
Sharing the experience about learning Chinese was the last part of the conference and four students respectively from elementary, intermediate and advanced level delivered the speech. They are Tanzanian student Siqin from B5, Italian student Tina from C1, German student Ma Xi from D and Viet student Peishi Qingling from E. They all mentioned that mastering Pinyin and making Chinese friends are the key to learn well. Tina impressed all the students with her interesting life experience here. She not only told us the difference of dinner time between China and Italy, but also recommended an excellent Italian restaurant here in HUST. Everybody applauded at her colorful experiences.
After the ceremony, all the students went to the memorial plaque and every class took group photos together to put a satisfactory end to their Chinese learning.
It’s reported that there are about 220 Chinese language students registered in the School of International Education this year, witnessing the progress in our international Chinese education. The conference held in each semester fueled up the students’ motivation in Chinese language study by awarding the outstanding learners and in the same time, which provides a platform for the students to share their experiences and most importantly, it’s a graduation ceremony for the graduates to cherish.
