Int’l Students Won Prizes in the Second Clinical Thinking & Skills Competition

On October 13,“Study in China” — The Second Clinical Thinking and Skills Competition for International Medical Students” was held in Dalian Medical University. HUST won the highest award in the competition - the Excellent Group Award, the Best Teamwork Award and the Emergency Individual Award.

The competition was jointly sponsored by the China Association for International Education(CAFSA) and Dalian Medical University, and organized by the School of International Education of Dalian Medical University. The purpose of the event is to thoroughly implement the overall plan of “Building World-class Universities and First-class Disciplines”, to implement the spirit of the National Study Abroad Conference and “Opinions on Doing a Good Job in the Opening-up of Education in the New Era”. Meanwhile, promote the development and communication of International Medical Education under the background of “Belt and Road Initiative”, establish Chinese brand of international medical education, enhance the clinical skills of International medical students in China and cultivate more qualified and excellent international medical talents.Liu Jinghui,Chairman of the China Association for International Education(CAFSA) , Wu Yingce, Director of the Business Development Department of the Chinese Association of Higher Education, Lu Chunsheng, Secretary General of the China Association for International Education(CAFSA) , and Professor Li Jingnian of Dalian Medical University as the Chief Referees, Prof. Hong Mei of Union Hospital of Tongji Medical College,HUST, as the deputy chief referee attended the opening and closing ceremonies and presented awards to the winning team and the winners.

There are 30 universities participating in this competition, including Dalian Medical University, China Medical University, Fudan University, Capital Medical University, and Tianjin Medical University, etc.120 international students from 28 countries majoring in clinical medicine competed for honors, showing the youthful style of international students studying in China.The competition covers subjects such as internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, pediatrics, infection,first aid, etc., focusing on the clinical thinking, patient-centered humanistic care spirit,  communication skills with patients and standardized clinical operations and integrated teamwork ability.The venue layout and scoring standards are completely in accordance with the requirements of the"National Higher Medical College Students Clinical Skills Competition" rules. The whole competition is divided into preliminary and final stages and adopted track type during the full course. The questions are all clinical real cases shown in English, and each case has a true representation of the patient's name and clinical symptoms.

Under the careful organization of the School of International Education and the First Clinical College, HUST selected the 2013 MBBS students JEHANE MICHAEL LE GRANGE (South Africa), SEAN JAMES DICKINSON (South Africa), and Chen Zixuan /METHAVEECHULANUKA (Thailand) and PRAPTI BAKHSHI (New Zealand) to participate in the competition on behalf of HUST. With solid clinical skills, standardized operation, rigorous clinical thinking, humane care and good teamwork spirit,they left a deep impression on the judges and observers, and finally won thehighest award in the competition as the second place.JEHANE MICHAEL LE GRANGE from South Africa won the Emergency Individual Award for his outstanding performance and organizational skills.

The excellent results achieved in this competition are the concentrated display of HUST clinical teaching results which have gathered the hard work of the first clinical hospitals’ instructors. This competition has received strong support from all departments of the university. Responsive to the expectations, the outstanding students have demonstrated excellence of medical international education of HUST.


10月13日,“‘学在中国’系列活动——第二届来华留学生临床思维与技能竞赛·2018” (“Study in China” — The Second Clinical Thinking and Skills Competition for International Medical Students)在大连医科大学举行,我校代表队荣获竞赛最高奖项——优异团体奖、最佳团队合作奖和急诊单项优秀奖3个奖项。

本次竞赛由中国高等教育学会外国留学生教育管理分会和大连医科大学联合主办,大连医科大学国际教育学院承办。活动旨在深入贯彻“建设世界一流大学和一流学科”的整体方案,落实全国留学工作会议和《关于做好新时期教育对外开放工作的若干意见》精神,促进“一带一路”背景下国际医学教育的发展与交流,树立我国国际医学教育品牌,提升来华医学国际学生临床技能水平,培养更多合格、优秀的国际化医学人才。中国高等教育学会外国留学生教育管理分会理事长刘京辉、中国高等教育学会事业发展部主任吴英策、中国高等教育学会外国留学生教育管理分会秘书长卢春生、大连医科大学李靖年教授作为总裁判长及华中科技大学同济医学院附属协和医院洪梅教授作为副总裁判长出席开、闭幕式并为获奖团队和获奖个人颁奖。

本次竞赛共有大连医科大学、中国医科大学、复旦大学、首都医科大学、天津医科大学等30所院校参赛。来自28个国家的120名临床医学专业(MBBS)本科国际学生同场竞技,集中展现了来华国际学生的青春风采。竞赛涵盖内科、外科、妇产科、儿科、感染、急救等科目,重点考核来华医学国际学生的临床思维、以患者为中心的人文关怀精神、与患者的沟通技巧和规范化的临床操作及综合性团队合作能力。场地布置和评分标准完全参照《全国高等医学院校大学生临床技能竞赛》赛项规程要求,竞赛分为初赛和决赛,使用语言为英语,全程采用赛道式。题目均为英文的临床真实病例,每个病例都有真实的患者姓名和临床症状的表述。

我校在国际教育学院和第一临床学院的精心组织下,选拔了2013级MBBS专业南非籍学生约汉(JEHANE MICHAEL LE GRANGE),南非籍学生詹圣(SEAN JAMES DICKINSON),泰国籍学生陈子轩(METHAVEE CHULANUKA)和新西兰籍学生安琪(PRAPTI BAKHSHI)四名本科国际学生代表我校参赛。他们以扎实的临床基本功、规范的操作、严谨的临床思维、全程的人文关怀和良好的团队合作精神,给评委和观摩人员留下了极其深刻的印象,最终以团队总分第二名的优异成绩获得大赛最高奖项。其中,南非籍选手约汉(JEHANE MICHAELLE GRANGE)凭借沉着冷静的表现和出色的组织能力,斩获急诊单项优秀奖。

此次竞赛取得的优异成绩是我校临床教学成果的集中展示,凝聚了第一临床医院指导教师的心血,得到了学校各部门的大力支持,在全国范围内展现了我校医学国际教育的风采。
