The opening ceremony of Master Program in Information and Communication Engineering was held on Oct 27. Chen Jianguo, HUST vice president and Mr. Liu Mingzhe, the economic and commercial counselor of Chinese Embassy in Namibia, together with the 34 students from 16 countries, attended the ceremony online.
Chen Jianguo remarked that HUST had been bravely assumed the responsibility in foreign education aid work and regarded training talents for the world, especially for countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative as university’s important mission and duty. Since 2017, HUST has trained 132 scholars from 37 countries. At the end of his speech, Chen Jianguo hoped that the new students may live up to their youth, make achievements in their studies, and contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Mr. Liu Mingzhen pointed out that China had always been committed to achieving mutual benefit through multilateral cooperation. Up to now, China has completed more than 30,000 international human resources cooperation programs, inviting approximately 400,000 officials, technicians, and international students from more than 150 countries to study in China. He hoped that the students could cherish HUST’s first-class teaching and research environment, work hard, share their experiences with colleagues, and promote the friendship between their home countries and China.
Khantse Moleboheng Mohohlo, from Lesotho of MOFCOM 2019 batch, wished that the new students could be the ambassador of friendship while studying at HUST, striving to advance the cooperation and the exchange between China and foreign countries.
Assefa Tesfay Abraha, from Ethiopia of MOFCOM 2018 batch, suggested the new students to communicate with their professors and colleagues and seize the opportunity to learn the Chinese language, culture, and its wisdom.
As the representative of the new students, Nghipandulwa Tenna Tanga, an official of the Ministry of Agriculture of Namibia, gave the speech. He said that China and Africa had always partnered with each other in the pursuit of economic development and better lives for their people. He wished he could impact his community and contribute to the development of his country by using the expertise he built at HUST.
Qiu Caiming, dean of the School of Electronic Information and Communications, said that the school would continue to provide students with high-quality teaching resources and committed to the cultivating of high-level talents in the field of information and communication engineering for the world, especially for countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
