On the morning of Feb 21st, the opening ceremony for international new students in 2017 spring semester was successfully held in the international activity center in the Friendship Apartment. The new students from all over the world gathered together against the cold heavy rain. Present at the ceremony were Liu Junhua, the dean of School of International Education(SIE) and vice dean of SIE Zhao Xiaofeng..
Mr. Liu Junhua delivered a welcoming speech
The ceremony was held by Yuzheng, the admission officer in the International Student Office and Mr. Liu delivered a warm and enthusiastic opening speech to welcome the new international students and in the meanwhile, he introduced the high-quality education, rich academic resources and goal of internationalization of HUST. “You come here across the long distance to gain knowledge, broaden horizon and make friends, which are of high importance and however, the priority of all is your health and safety that is to the deepest concern of your family and friends back home.” Combined with his own experience in Chinese embassy or consulate abroad, Mr. Liu expressed his heartfelt care to the new students, who were emotionally moved. Ms. Zhao also conveyed her sincere welcome and ardent anticipation to the students and ensuing was her introduction of the young team of the International Student Office. Admission officers and managing officers presented their duties at work one after another onstage, building a bridge between the new student and the office—known as the home for international students.

Followed was the speech from the current student representative, “I traveled thousands of miles to come here for academic purpose, and one-year life and study here proves that it is worth the long distance that I’ve traveled. I enjoy the lively class and colorful cultural activities organized by the teachers and we help each other as classmates. I’m feel lucky that I chose HUST. ” Meryem Belfouzy from Morocco won a loud round of applause from the audience. ”Chinese is not difficult to learn at all if you put your hard efforts into it”, her words cheered up everyone towards the future stay in China. Hugo Jacques Pierre Seigle from France delivered his intensive passion toward HUST. “ I think HUSTis a place suitable for studying, where we could discover new courses and dig deeper and where we could attend lectures and academic conferences and so on. At the same time, I wish I could explore China and know more people as well as acquire a more profound understanding of Chinese culture.” As the new student representative, Hugo stoke the chord of many new students in attendance. In closing, the new students took a group photo with the officers in a lovely and warm atmosphere where their excitement and hope flew in the air.
Meryem Belfouzy (Morocco) shared her experience at HUST
It’s said that therewere around 3,700 international students worldwide studying in HUSTin 2016 and nearly 150 students were newly enrolled and injected blood into HUST with a goal of international education. They have not only added an international atmosphere into the campus, but also have witnessed that HUST has furthered its journey to international education.
2月21日上午，我校2017年春季国际学生新生开学典礼在友谊公寓留学生活动中心举行，尽管天公不作美，来自世界各地的国际学生仍风雨无阻、齐聚一堂。国际教育学院院长刘俊华，副院长赵晓峰出席了典礼。

典礼由留学生办公室招生老师余铮主持，刘俊华发表了热情洋溢的致辞，欢迎新同学们的到来，介绍了学校的办学水平、丰富的教育资源和国际化氛围的发展目标。“你们千里迢迢来到中国，学习知识、增长见识和结交朋友都很重要，但是最重要的莫过于你们的健康和安全——那是你们远在家乡的家人朋友最挂念的事情。”刘院长结合自己十几年驻外的经历表达了对新同学们的深切关怀，令在场学生十分动容。赵晓峰也表达了对新生的欢迎与期待，并热情介绍了留学生办公室的年轻工作团队，招生及管理口的老师们一一登台亮相并介绍了自己的工作职责，在新生和“留学生之家”间搭起了一座沟通的桥梁。

紧接着是新老生代表致辞，“我不远万里来这里学习，一年的学习和生活表明这份万水千山的跨越是值得的。老师们生动的课程和多彩的文化活动让我们乐在其中，同学们也互相关怀，我很庆幸自己当初选择了华中大。”来自摩洛哥的老生代表方子怡的一番生动演讲赢得了新生们的阵阵掌声,她的一句“只要用心，汉语真的一点也不难！”更是点燃了大家对未来留华生活的期望。来自法国的新生代表胡歌也表达了自己对华中大的热爱，”我觉得华中大是个适合学习的地方，我们可以探索新的课程并深入学习，参加诸如讲座、学术会议等交流活动。同时我自己也想进一步探索中国，认识更多的人，更加了解中国的文化。”胡歌的发言道出了很多在场学生的心声。最后，新生们和留办老师们一起合照留念，整个会场气氛温馨，洋溢着新生们的兴奋与希冀。
2016，共有来自全球各国的3700余名国际学生来校学习。今年春季入学新生近150人，为我校国际化办学注入了新鲜血液。国际学生新生的到来不仅为校园增添了国际化的氛围，同时也见证了我校国际化办学水平的不断提高。
