Notice Regarding “Understanding China's New Era” Themed Essay, Photography and Short Video Contest for international students and alumni

Dear international students,                                                                                                        March 23, 2022

 

To deepen exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, present a true, multi-dimensional, and panoramic view of China, Contemporary World magazine, together with China Xinhua News Network Cooperation and China Road & Bridge Cooperation, holds “Understanding China's New Era” Themed Essay, Photography and Short Video Contest for international students and alumni. The contest is co-organized by the secretariat of China Scholarship Council.

 


I. Theme

The theme of the contest is “Understanding the New Era of China”. Your essays, photography, or short videos should reflect your view and understanding on various aspects of China in the past decade. You are welcome to share your experience and feelings.

 


. Contestant

International students in China (including those who are currently abroad) and alumni who graduated after 2012 and is currently in China.

 


III. Requirement

The work should be in the form of essays, photography, or short videos. The contestant can choose one or more forms. All the works must be original and based on real life experience and feelings, and should not be published on other books, newspapers, magazines, websites, and new media platforms, neither should they be submitted to other similar contests.

 

For essay

1.  The essay should be on the theme and with a title. The length of the essay should be between 1000 to 2000 words. Contestant can write your experience studying, living, and working in China.

2. There is no limit to the style of the essay. Essay written in Chinses is preferred. The preferred font format is Song, 14-point and 1.5-spaced.

 

For photography

1. On the theme of the contest, the content of the photograph can be campus life, public figures, natural scenery, local customs, etc. The photograph should be taken in China or other countries and regions related to Chinese elements.

2. The photograph can be in black and white or in colors. A brief description (within 100 words) of your work is required. Each contestant can submit no more than 2 works, either single photo or group photo (no more than 3 pieces per group, counted as 1 piece).

3. The submitted photography work must be in JPG format.

 

For short video

1. On the theme of the contest, the content of the video can be the contestant’s experience studying, living, and working in China, reflecting your feeling and view of China’s development and changes in various field over the past decade.

2. The length of the video should be around 3 minutes, and the form of presentation is not limited. It could be short story, micro film, micro documentary, Vlog, etc. The resolution of the work shall not be less than 720P, and mainstream video formats such as AVI, MOV, WMV, MP4, RMVB are accepted. The work is preferred to be in Chinese or English. If other languages are used, Chinese or English subtitles are required.

3. The contestant can participate as an individual or as a team. International students are encouraged to team with Chinese students to create the work. The work of international students can be instructed by faculty advisers.


 

IV. Submission

Please submit the work to ISO (yrwang0213@hust.edu.cn) with a standard subject “Essay/Photography/Short video—Name (Student ID)—Nationality—Name of the work).


 

V. Schedule

1. Submission

The submission period is between March 10, 2022 and July 31, 2022.

The deadline for submitting essay and photography work is May 31, 2022.

The deadline for submitting short video work is July 31, 2022.

 

2. Evaluation

The organizing committee will announce the result on the website of Contemporary World ( http://www.ddsjcn.com ) and the website of China Scholarship Council ( https://www.csc.edu.cn ) from August 25, 2022 to August 31, 2022.

 

3. Promoting (from September 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022)

The awarded works will be promoted in the Chinese and English editions of Contemporary World, the English WeChat account “CPC WORKS”, the official website of the China Scholarship Council, the APPs of China Xinhua News Network, etc..

The author has the copyright and the right of authorship, and the organizing committee has the right of use. The organizer has the right to use the relevant works for publication, publicity, exhibition and other purposes, and no additional remuneration will be paid.

Participants shall have full, complete and exclusive copyrights for the submitted works, and shall not infringe other intellectual property rights such as portrait rights and reputation rights of third parties, as well as personal ownership.


 

VI. Award

1. In the essay category, there will be 5 first prizes, 10 second prizes, and 20 third prizes. Award certificates will be issued, with prizes of 1500 yuan, 1000 yuan, and 500 yuan respectively;

2. In the photography category, there will be 5 first prizes, 10 second prizes, and 20 third prizes. Award certificates will be issued, with prizes of 1000 yuan, 600 yuan, and 300 yuan respectively;

3. In the short video category, there will be 5 first prizes, 10 second prizes, and 20 third prizes. Award certificates will be issued, with prizes of 8000 yuan, 5000 yuan, and 2000 yuan respectively.

(The awards of the above three categories will be increased or decreased according to the number of participants and the quality of the works. All participants will be granted access to the 2022 Contemporary World e-journal for both Chinese and English version.)

4. China Road & Bridge Corporation will give priority to the winners and contestants to provide work internships and employment opportunities at China or abroad, and will provide corporate scholarships or grants for international students in China as appropriate.

关于开展“感受中国新时代”主题征文、摄影和短视频大奖赛的通知


各位国际学生,

为深化人文交流、推动文明互鉴,展示真实、立体、全面的中国,展现来华留学生的良好精神风貌,《当代世界》杂志社与中国新华新闻电视网、中国路桥工程有限责任公司组成组委会,联合主办“感受中国新时代“主题征文、摄影和短视频大奖赛。该活动由国家留学基金管理委员会秘书处协办。欢迎大家积极参与。

 一、活动主题

以“感受中国新时代”为主题,反映来华留学生、留华毕业生对近十年来中国各方面情况的看法和认识,以亲身体验和切身感受讲述他们眼中的中国新时代。

 

 二、参赛对象

目前就读的来华留学生(含因疫情等原因尚未返华的留学生)和2012年后毕业的留华毕业生。

 

 三、赛事要求

本次赛事采用征文、摄影作品、短视频同时征集的方式进行,参赛人员可参加其中一项或多项比赛。参赛作品以真实生活和切身感受为创作基础,均须原创,未在其他书、报、刊、网站、新媒体平台公开发表,也未向其他同类比赛投稿。

 (一)征文要求

 l.围绕活动主题,题目自拟。以来华留学生视角讲述在中国学习、生活、工作的亲身经历、感受和见闻。

2.  征文体裁不限,篇幅 1000— 2000 字,作品建议以中文撰写,字体格式建议采用宋体、四号字、1.5 倍行距。

 (二)摄影要求

l.围绕活动主题。作品内容可以是校园生活、大众人物、自然风光、风土人情等,拍摄地为中国境内或与中国元素相关的其他国家和地区。

2. 摄影作品黑白、彩色均可,须附作品简要说明,100 字以内为宜。每人提交不超过2件作品,单幅照片和组照(每不超过3张,按1件计算)均可。

 (三)短视频要求

l. 围绕活动主题,以来华留学生视角记录在中国学习、生活、工作中的所见所闻所感,生动反映对2012年以来中国各领域发展变化的感受和体会。

2. 作品时长3分钟左右,具体呈现形式不限,剧情短片、微电影、微纪录片、Vlog等均可。作品分辨率不得低于720P,接受 AVI、MOV、WMV、MP4、RMVB 等主流视频格式文件。作品语种为中文或英文;如使用其他语种,须附加中文或英文字幕。

3. 可以个人或团队名义参赛。鼓励外国留学生与中国学生组成团队进行创作,在校留学生作品可有指导教师参与。

 

 四、发送方式

所有参赛者统一将作品发送至国际学生办公室(邮箱:yrwang0213@hust.edu.cn),邮件标题注明“征文/摄影/短视频— 作者护照姓名(学号)— 国籍— 作品名称"。

 

 五、时间安排

 (一) 征集阶段 ( 2022 年 3 月 1 0 日至 7 月 31 日 )

l. 征文、摄影作品提交截止时间: 2022 年 5 月 3 1 日;

2. 短视频作品提交截止时间: 2022 年 7 月 31 日。

 (二)评奖阶段(2022年6月1日至8月31日)

 组委会将于 2022 年 8 月 25 日至 8 月 31 日在“当 代世界” 官 网( http://www.ddsjcn.com ) 、 国 家 留 学 基 金 委 官 网( https://www.csc.edu.cn ) 对最终评选结果进行公示, 并对获奖个人和集体进行表彰。

 (三)宣传阶段 ( 2022 年 9 月 1 日 至 1 2 月 31 日 )

获奖作品将在《当代世界》 中、英文刊和“CPC WORKS“英文微信公众号、国家留学基金委官网、中国新华新闻电视网客户端和自有平台等主办方媒体平台陆续推广宣传。

 本次赛事征文、摄影、短视频获奖作品,作者享有著作权和署名权,赛事组委会享有使用权。主办单位有权将相关作品用于出版、宣传、展览等用途,不再另付稿酬。

参赛人员应对参赛作品拥有充分、完全、排他的著作权,不侵犯第三方的肖像权、名誉权等其他知识产权以及个人所有权。

 

 六、奖项设置

 (一) 征文类设一等奖 5 名、二等奖 10 名、 三等奖 20 名, 颁发获奖证书 , 奖金分别为 1500 元、1000 元、500 元;

 (二) 摄影类设一等奖 5 名、 二等奖 10 名、 三等奖 20 名,颁发获奖证书, 奖金分别为 1000 元、600 元、300 元;

 (三)短视频类设一等奖 5 名、二等奖 10 名、三等奖 20 名, 颁发获奖证书,奖金分别为 8000元、5000元、2000元。

   上述三个赛事的奖项视参赛人数和作品质量酌情增减。凡参赛者均可获赠 2022 年《当代世界》 中、英文电子刊 阅读权限。

 (四)中国路桥工程有限责任公司等企业为获奖者及参赛者 优先提供海内外工作实习和就业机会,并将视情提供来华留学生企业奖学金或助学金。
