Dr. Abid Rashid’s essay “My life in China” won the second prize in the CUCAS (China’s University and College Admission System) essay competition. The Huster who is a Master’s candidate in Pediatrics wrote an essay that reflected his life in China and his experiences in Hust.  A Kashmir bornIndia, Abid Rashid, has done his undergraduate studies in Tiangin medical school and is now perusing his Master’s at Tonji Medical School in HUST,Wuhan.

Dr. Abid Rashid’s essay is both witty and interesting show casing his personality and his zeal for life.  Rashid said that having been exposed to the most modern and technical equipment in Chinese hospitals had enabled him to excel in his field and help him earn some distinguished certificates and awards in India.

"All thanks to the most modern and cutting edge technologies used in China. I must tell you, the infrastructure and the working environment in China are far more superior than most first world countries’ and the country is developing at a tremendous pace."

After working for some time in his home town in India, Rashid decided to continue studying for his Master’s degree and started applying to universities in China.  Once admitted to Tongji hospital of HUST(Huazhong University of Science and Technology), he and his wife Kateryna Zavertailo were excited to visit Wuhan. Having never been to the city before, they couldn’t wait to explore the culture of Wuhan.

"I and my wife Kate share great enthusiasm for China.Chinahas the distinction of being one of the world’s oldest civilizations.  It’s long standing history of culture, civilization and the Chinese language itself with its amazing calligraphy take my breath away."

Dr. Rashid also mentioned that under the guidance and supervision of Professor Luo Xiaoping studying in such a world class university, like HUST, which has a history of its own, made him feel distinguished at many levels.

"The university has a vast campus, which is full with natural beauty and lofty trees, where students relax, eat cherries, talk and study. The classrooms have a freshness of their own where you always want to go back to learn something new. Huge libraries with world class literature, well-equipped labs, where you can always extend your knowledge to its best."

In regard to his studying experience, Rashid appreciates the opportunities that were offered to him by his professors. He had a chance to attend a world class doctor’s conference of APPES (The Asia Pacific Endocrine Society) on his professor’s recommendation which, he says, was extremely useful.  Ever since he started his Master’s program in HUST, Rashid says he had been fortunate to meet a lot of international professors, academicians and scientists who happened to come to Wuhanfor international conferences.

"My university has many honorary visiting Professors from various countries. Each day opportunities are seized by attendance at conferences, seminars, symposiums and by interacting with some distinguished minds in their respective fields. Apart from the regular classrooms, there is a huge exposure in hospital for clinical and practical knowledge."

Dr. Abid Rashid concludes his essay by saying that Chinahas offered him a lot and that the resources and opportunities are available to anyone who is willing to tap on them.

"It has definitely offered me a lot. Besides my career and friends, I found the love of my life, my better half here in China, which is a great blessing."
