On September 27, 2019, the meeting for International Exchange Students of 2019 Fall Semester was held at the International Student Activity Center. Present at the meeting were 18 student representatives from countries including Germany, France, Poland, Russia and R.O. Korea. Mr. Liu Junhua, the Dean of the School of International Education, Ms. Jiang Jing, the Deputy Director of the Graduate School, Ms. Luo Wei, the Director of the HUST Registration Center and other staff from the International Exchange Center and the School of International Education attended the meeting.
Mr. Liu Junhua first made a brief introduction about HUST. He stated that HUST is one of the top 10 universities in China and it is involved in the "Double First-Class" Initiative. He mentioned HUST attached great importance to international exchange and cooperation and it had established partnership with around 300 universities from 36 countries and offered various exchange programs. He also extended a warm welcome to the student representatives from partner universities, "Thank you for choosing to study at HUST. We hope that you can adapt to the life and study here soon and make your study experience at HUST memorable. Also, you may share your stories here with your families, friends and classmates after returning to your homeland to help more people know about HUST."
International students were asked to share their feelings. A French student said, "I encountered some difficulties when I came here, such as how to arrive at HUST from the airport, how to register, etc. But the teachers and volunteers here were very friendly and warm-hearted, and helped me solve these problems." Another student from Poland observed, "The campus is so large that I bought an electric bike. And I also want to eat more Chinese food here." Students from Russia felt that teachers here were very helpful, the course design was good, and said that they would like to study for an additional semester. Apart from these discussions, students from Germany, R.O. Korea and other countries also joined the conversation enthusiastically.
In response to the problems faced by international students, the staff from the concerned departments said that they would try their best to solve them and provide international students with a good learning environment and conditions.
In the fall semester of 2019, 83 exchange students from partner universities were admitted by HUST. The above-mentioned universities include KEDGE Business School, The University of Stavanger, RWTH Aachen University, Ulm University, Duale Hochschule Baden Wuettemberg Mannheim(DHBW), Rhein Main University of Applied Sciences, Rzeszów University of Technology, etc. The arrival of these exchange students has made the campus more international.
