In order to further implement the epidemic prevention and control responsibilities and strengthen the humanistic care for international students, the School of International Education recently organized visits to international students in Wuhan during winter vacation, and distributed Spring Festival gift packages, health and epidemic prevention bags and holiday safety notices.

On the afternoon of February 3, with the cooperation of the apartment management staff, Dean LIU Junhua led a team to visit the international students living on-campus.

At the Friendship Apartment, Dean LIU issued holiday safety notice to Dantian property management company, conveyed the school’s epidemic prevention requirements, gave international students Spring Festival gift packages, and asked in detail whether the students adapt, as well as suggestions and opinions on the remodeled Friendship Apartment.

In Bai jingge, Vice Dean GAO Xiang issued holiday safety notice to Zhongchu property management company, conveyed the spirit of HUST and SIE, and visited students in the dormitory.

In Tongji Campus, HONG Tao, director of Medical International Student Office, issued holiday safety notice to Tongji and Tongyuan property management companies, thanked the staff for still sticking to their posts in winter vacation. HONG Tao also sent Spring Festival gift packages to international students to convey the school's concern.

ISMAEL TANGUY ALI HAROUNA (Chinese name: HAN Ruonan), is the 2019 master student of School of Electronic Information and Communications, also the student of the Ministry of Commerce’s foreign aid training program and the technical officer of the Niger telecom company. He is very grateful to the Ministry of Commerce and HUST for renovating the Friendship Apartment and organizing international students to actively participate in the democratic decision-making process such as furniture selection. After receiving the Spring Festival gift package from Dean LIU, Han Ruonan was very happy and said that he would strictly abide by the epidemic prevention regulations, stay on campus during winter vacation, study hard and prepare for a smooth graduation.

XU Yuzi, the international student counselor of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, participated in the visit as well. MERON TSEGAY KIFLE (Chinese name: LI Meiyue) from Eritrea is the 2018 master student in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and she was very happy after receiving the Spring Festival gift package. Recalling the lockdown during the Spring Festival last year, she still felt as if it was yesterday. The epidemic in China has been well controlled, and she believes that everyone will have a healthy and happy Spring Festival this year.

On February 4, HUANG Chao, director of the International Student Office, led a team to visit international students in Jiufeng, Guanshan, Qingshan, Changqing Garden, etc.

On February 5, a rainy day. HONG Tao, director of Medical International Student Office, led a team to visit international students’ home in Hankou area. She asked international students about their difficulties in life and study, told them to follow the epidemic prevention regulations and do well in personal protection during the epidemic period.

ADHAM SAYED (Chinese name: YANG Hang) from Lebanon is the 2017 doctoral student in the School of Economics, and he is also the author of the book "Confidence comes from effectiveness: A foreigner’s Wuhan Diary". After receiving the Spring Festival gift package, he communicated with HUANG Chao about his recent study and life. "Because of this book, I have received a lot of interviews recently. I want to use my way and my voice to show the world a real story about Wuhan’s fight against COVID-19. This year, everyone can have a happy Spring Festival celebration, which is the best manifestation of China’s success in fighting the epidemic."

After receiving the Spring Festival gift package, ANDREA HOECKER (Chinese name: HE Xuehua) from Germany, 2017 master student in HUST Law School, excitedly posted to her Wechat Moments in Chinese: "Although I still cannot go home this year, I am really happy to receive the Spring Festival gift from HUST."

Seeing the teachers braved the wind and rain to send new year's gift, SADDAM HADI ALI SHAIEA, a Yemeni 2017 doctoral student studying in Tongji campus, said: "Although it is very cold today, the teachers made me feel very warm." After saying that, he wanted to make some exotic milk tea for the teachers in return. As the teachers had to continue the visits to other students, his hospitality was declined politely.

MOHAMED ABDULKADIR MOHAMED (Chinese name: XIA Mo) is a Somali 2017 doctoral student studying in Tongji campus. When HONG Tao and other teachers visited his home, his two lovely children were infected by the enthusiasm and stretched out their hands for embrace. HONG Tao affectionately picked up the two babies at the same time. Everyone took a group photo happily in a joyful atmosphere. It is believed that the seeds of friendship have been planted in the hearts of the younger generation.

Jiufeng has the largest number of HUST international students living there. In Tong’anli community, HUANG Chao communicated with the community secretary LI Hua. According to the unified requirements of Wuhan municipal government, the community has made epidemic prevention requirements for all the people, including foreigners. Epidemic prevention materials such as masks and alcohol were distributed to everyone. The community hopes to work closely with HUST to jointly do a better job in epidemic prevention and control and livelihood security for international students.

The international students Spring Festival gift packages have the same standards and different contents as the Chinese students’ staying at the school during winter vacation, but they all convey the school's care for students and shared the Chinese "Nian" culture. In the post-epidemic era, the School of International Education will pay more attention to improving quality and efficiency, continuously improving the quality of student sources, management, and service, guiding international students to tell the story of China and the story of HUST, and making greater contributions to the school’s "Double First-Class" construction.
