Nobel Prize winner Prof. Klaus von Klitzing appointed as an honorary professor of HUST

HUST Vice President Prof. Luo Jun awarding the appointment letter to Prof. Klitzing

 

On the afternoon of Jul. 3rd, the appointment ceremony of Nobel Prize winner Prof. Klaus von Klitzing was held at the reception room for foreign guests. He was appointed as an honorary professor of HUST.


Guests attending the ceremony included HUST Vice President Luo Jun, the related staff from the International Exchange Center and Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center. Vice Director Yu Hailin, from the International Exchange Center hosted this ceremony. Besides, Prof. Luo decided to establish a series of high-level research lectures named after Klaus von Klitzing.


Prof. Klitzing was pleased to be appointed as an honorary professor, and commended the construction level of the experimental equipment of Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center. In addition, he showed his willingness to collaborate closely with  the center in scientific research.

Prof. Klaus von Klitzing, a world renowned physicist was born in June, 1943. In 1962, he began to study physics at the Technical University of Braunschweig. In 1972, he obtained his PhD at Wurzberg Institute of Physics. In 1980, he taught physics at the Technical University of Munich. In 1984, he was the director of the Institute of Solid State Physics of Max Planck Society. Because Prof. Klaus von Klitzing found the quantum Hall effect and developed the new technology to measure the physical constants, he was awarded the Nobel Physics Prize in 1985.
