Name: Ketsaraporn Suttapong( Rainy)
Nationality: Thailand
University: Prince of Sorgkla University
Identity: A doctoral student majoring in Business Administration and the first Thai PHD student at HUST

On May 31th, journalists from both HUST English Press Corps and Chinese Journalists Association jointly viewed  Rainy, a Thai doctoral degree candidate of business administration in HUST and also a teacher in the field of  Management Science and Liberal Arts in the Prince of Sorgkla University in Thailand.

When talking about why choosing China for further education, Rainy mentioned two points: One is that China and Thailand shares similar climate feature and living habit with only few exceptions, and the other one is that China is speeding, especially in economy. “I love China. Through the experience in China, I know i can learn more about business management , and this would be extremely helpful for my future career in Thailand.” Rainy wants to continue her teaching career after completing her study in China.

While talking about making the transition from teacher to student, Rainy showed us a humble attitude. “When I step into the classroom as a learner rather than a guider, I know a lot is still buried there for me to explore. I also know that the problems i come across in class now will probably be the challenge of my future students. So my role of student now will help me communicate better with my students in the future.” All of this helps her to get adapted to new roles smoothly.

Rainy also mentioned that the Chinese educational system was more competitive than that of   Thailand, which make going to China a good option for Thai students to enhance their present or future careers. “In China, I have always been pushed by my supervisor to work harder and harder. It is no wonder that Chinese people have been noted for their diligence around the world.”

During the three years of study, Rainy has spent a lot of time with her country mates as well as some Chinese friends. “We have many extra-curricular activities and I like going traveling during my spare time.” Rainy told us that she had visited most of the breathtaking and celebrated attractions in Wuhan, like the Yellow Crane Tower, East Lake, Botanical Garden and etc.

She has also gone to some other cites such as Sichuan and Beijing, the capital city. “I am going to Xi’an next year and I am looking forward to my journey.”

Rainy also came across some problems in Wuhan in the period of her adaptation. The first challenge was the weather. “You know in Thailand, we only have summer and spring. I, at first, can hardly survive the cold winter in Wuhan, but now i take it as an opportunity. I am the happiest person when i for the first time in my life see and feel the snow around me. I have never seen snow before.” she said joyfully. She is now somehow familiar with the Chinese culture after being in China for some years. she said, when asked about cultural enjoyment, she liked the traditional Chinese festival best. “Just like the Dragon Boat Day, we do not have this kind of festival in Thailand.”

At the time being, Rainy is busy with her graduation. For that process, she hopes that there will be more “One-Stop” service offered to international students, so that the lengthy procedures they have to go through while taking care of their graduation formality will be greatly shortened.

“I have gained a lot in HUST, and i believe I can be a better teacher when going back to Thailand.” Rainy said with full hope of great success in her closing statement.
