From April 9th to May 21th, international students of HUST were provided with a special course named Basis and Choreographing in Modern Dance by HUST Art Education Center. The course was taught by Mr Liu Chang, a young dancing artist in China. More than 30 international students attended this professional dancing course from 2:30pm to 5:30pm every Sunday afternoon, in Room 401 of West 8th building.

International students of HUST took an active participation when the information of this dance class being announced, so that an international dancing team was built up immediately. Although this international dancing team members are from different countries, grow up in different culture backgrounds, and skilled in different forms of dance, now they were gathering together to learn, to feel and to enjoy modern dance every weekend, and studied the basis and choreographing in Modern Dance. Many international students grew bruises on their arms and legs because of high-intensity training every week, but no one gave up. Instead, they attended course on time and studied attentively, and everybody enjoyed the harmonious atmosphere of the class. International students also made good friends and obtained long-lasting friendship during the courses.

After two months’ hard training, the dance HELLO choreographed by Mr Liu Chang was performed by international students in Room 401 of West 8th building in May 21th, 2017. The leaders and teachers of Art Education Center and School of International Education, and many student audiences came to watch the demonstration course and their performances. The dancing room was fully occupied even before the show started. There were a total of 3 performances in the demonstration course, and HELLO performed by 12 international students coming from 10 different countries was the 1st on stage and achieved a big success. At first, each student gave a short self-introduction in Chinese, and audiences all applauded for their excellent Chinese expression. When the music began, every dancer quickly devoted themselves into the music, spun and moved according to the rhythm. Both the music and the movement expressed the international students’ emotions and feelings when they first came to China. Audiences all saw and felt the beauty and charm of modern dance through the students’ performing.

In the end of the demonstration course, teachers and students sit closely together and expressed their feelings about this activity. International students spoke actively and all expressed their gratitude towards the university, especially to Art Education Center and School of International Education for providing them with the chances of dancing and performing. They also expressed their thanks to Mr Liu Chang, the dancing teacher, Ms Vivian Yan, the teacher from School of International Education, and Ms Luo Derui, the teacher from Art Education Center, for their huge efforts towards the course in this semester. And they also expressed their wishes of being able to take part in more art courses and activities of HUST in the future. Mr Zhao Gencheng, the general secretary of Art Education Center, and Mr Lan Hanghang, the director of International Student Office, attended this activity.
