Khalifa University Delegation Visits Hubei Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center

On July 16, a delegation of 21 students and faculty from Khalifa University in the United Arab Emirates visited the Hubei Provincial Innovation Center for Humanoid Robotics, gaining an up-close look at China's accelerating progress in humanoid robotics—from technological breakthroughs to industrial applications. As one of China's largest innovation hubs of its kind, featuring the broadest range of application scenarios and the most diverse array of robot models, the center has become a focal point for the embodied intelligence industry both in Hubei and across the country.

At the center's exhibition hall, the delegation observed two flagship robotic systems developed by teams led by academicians from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST): the "Shennong" series, created by Academician Ding Han's team and known for its high-precision manipulation capabilities; and "Laborer No. 1" (nicknamed "Da Zhuang"), developed by Academician Chen Xuedong's team, which stands 1.8 meters tall and features robust load-bearing capacity suited for highly complex scenarios such as substation inspections. A comprehensive local supply chain map was on display, illustrating how core components are sourced from within Hubei Province—including sensors from VanJee Technology, force-controlled dual arms from YESENSE, joint modules from CDL Precision Technology, dexterous hands and electronic skin from Huaweike Intelligent, and harmonic reducers from Fanzhou Harmonic. The fact that all these core components are locally produced highlights the resilience and completeness of Hubei's humanoid robotics industry chain. Visitors also had the opportunity to interact with remote-controlled and combat robots, gaining hands-on insight into China's technological advances in embodied intelligence and interactive control.

What particularly impressed the delegation was the 3,100-square-meter "robot training hub" on the third floor. This facility recreates dozens of subdivided scenarios across five major categories—including commercial, industrial, and residential settings—at a 1:1 scale. Hundreds of humanoid robots undergo data collection and motion training under the guidance of trainers, generating 24,000 valid data records per day. This "data factory" model gave visitors a clear understanding of the data-driven perception–decision–execution loop that underpins embodied intelligence, while also demonstrating China's pioneering approach to large-scale robot training and real-world deployment. One UAE student remarked, "This is not just a robot manufacturing base but a true 'school' for robots. This concept is highly inspiring and gives us a more tangible perspective on the global trends in humanoid robotics."

Khalifa University, the top-ranked institution in the UAE and widely recognized for its engineering excellence across the Middle East, sent the delegation as part of the "2026 UAE Advanced Technology Summer Camp"—a two-week program featuring cutting-edge technology courses, hands-on lab sessions, and corporate site visits. In April of this year, H.E. Hussain Al Hammadi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to China, visited Huazhong University of Science and Technology, where both sides reached a consensus on strengthening people-to-people exchanges and establishing joint research initiatives. This visit to the innovation center marked a concrete step in implementing that agreement and served as a vivid example of the principle that "exchange fosters cooperation, and collaboration brings shared gains."


As the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) gets underway, Hubei Province's full-industry-chain achievements in humanoid robotics are being showcased to a global audience. The dialogue and interaction between Chinese and UAE youth at the frontier of robotics not only inject fresh momentum into bilateral technological ties but also contribute academic insight and innovative thinking to the deepening of the China-UAE comprehensive strategic partnership.
