A quiet yet interesting man

When we metafter some phone talks, for the interview, he surprised me a little by his quietness. He is SUWEN(Martin), the first student from Britain who studies for his doctoral degree in inorganic chemistry in HUST.

He though, almost kept the same gesture sitting on the sofa, would sometimes pronounce out, while communicating, some Chinese words, like "meiyou kanfa(没有看法)", "huake(华科)", "xiyi(西一食堂)"etc. which indicates he loves Chinese language and has enjoyed Chinese culture, and also that he is a very interesting man.

A careful and lucky student

When we talked about his application for HUST, SU mentioned a name several times, ZHUJINTAO, a professor of a superior academic background and now his doctoral supervisor. He choseChinaand HUST just because he is impressed by a journal article-specific role of polysorbate 80 on the targeting of nanoparticles to the brain (Wangqiang Sun, Changsheng Xie, Huafang Wang, Yu Hu from HUST, 2004) on Biomaterials. After further research, he found Mr. ZHU is the right professor for him.

“I am lucky, really!” SU said, “The application process is extremely complicated. Mr. ZHU and teachers in International Student Office are great. They helped me to apply, gave me the scholarship, and supported me all through the way.”

HUST “unbelievable”, Friends “reliable”

HUST gives him a big surprise-"unbelievable" is his saying. He told me that it is really a distance from his dormitory in HUAHONG to the east area of HUST.  And he has never seen such a big campus in Britain, or so many beautiful trees in a campus.

SU really enjoys his life here. He has made many good friends with his classmates in the lab and students from different countries. "They are really good. They would help me whenever I need." he said.

A young pioneer, a busy winter

SU will be staying in HUST for three years and the coming winter vacation is his first inChina. Since Spring Festival is not his holiday, he plans to read books and journal articles for the experiments in the next semester as well as for his dreams in the future.

Both HUST and students here leave SU a deep impression. He loves to be here. He would like recommend HUST to his friends. “I am the first British student studying doctoral degree here, yet I hope and I know a lot are coming.”
