On May 26, "HUST History and Chinese Culture Knowledge Contest" was held in the International Center of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Vice President Chen Jianguo attended the event. 15 joint teams formed by international and Chinese students from 15 colleges participated in the contest.

In the opening ceremony, Chen Jianguo pointed out that the contest is served as a bridge of cultural exchange, spiritual communication and friendship and cooperation for international and Chinese students, and as an important window for international students to understand the history of HUST and Chinese culture. It is hoped that this event will further deepen students’ understanding of the university’s developing process and the unique charm of Chinese civilization, so as to make greater contributions to promoting the spirit of HUST, spreading Chinese culture, and bringing peace and friendship to the world.

The contest was conducted through four rounds of competition, including various forms of questions such as multiple choice, true or false, audio-visual and expository questions, which comprehensively examined the contestants' knowledge of HUST’s history and Chinese culture. The contestants were daring to challenge and forge ahead, and cooperated tacitly, showing their rich knowledge and excellent team spirit. As the contest reached its final round, the conflict between three teams resulted in an explosive climax. The outstanding performance of the contestants won loud applause and cheering from the audience. In the end, Team Never Stop from School of Basic Medicine won the first prize; Team CPA Tigers from College of Public Administration and Team The Smart Amigos from School of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering won the second prize; Team Artsy from School of Humanities, Team The Strongest Hippocampus from School of Basic Medicine, and Team F4 from Center of Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language won the third prize.

At the awarding ceremony, Chen Jianguo presented the trophy and honorary certificate to Team Never Stop who won the first prize. He highly affirmed the courage, unity, and strive that all the contestants showed in the contest. He expected that students can plant a seed of love for Chinese language and culture, and try to become practitioners and disseminators of Chinese culture and HUST’s spirit through this contest.

The "HUST History and Chinese Culture Knowledge Contest" was organized by the School of International Education. This contest is one of a series of celebratory events devoted to the 70th anniversary of the university.
