On March 5, under the leadership of the teachers from the School of International Education, 14 international students participated in the activity which took place at the Entertainment Center for Elderly People. That day was made special for HUSTers with the aim of paying tribute and learning from Lei Feng, a selfless and respectable person who served other people regardless of return.

Once at the Entertainment Center for Elderly People, international students from across the world enthusiastically got to work and start giving their hands by helping the elderly people clean the windows among other things. “Lei Feng is a role model for the whole country. He tirelessly helped others without asking for any reward.” An African student who belonged to the group of visitors learned about Lei Feng from his Chinese teacher. “We are doing this to spread the Lei Feng work spirit and we really enjoy helping the old,” said the African student. A student from Thailand took part in the activity by playing Chinese chess with the old people, which surprised all of those who were present at the center. “It has been a long time since we last had so much fun!” an old man said out of appreciation in reference to the game with a foreigner. At last, they played table-tennis together, rowing a perfect period for this activity of learning from Lei Feng.

Lei Feng work spirit is deeply rooted in the heart of Chinese people. This is a great opportunity for international students to learn from this role model. He forever exemplifies not only the hard-working character of the Chinese but also their generous manner. As was learned from the visit at the center, elderly people need more attention in this society and we hope that people could work together to bring more helpful contributions for the vulnerable groups and fulfill the spirit of Lei Feng at the same time!

“学习雷锋好榜样”。3月5日，我校14名来自世界各地的“洋雷锋”们走进校老年活动中心，擦玻璃，陪聊天，打球赛，送爱心，用实际行动践行中国的“雷锋精神”。

下午2:30，留学生们来到老年活动中心，提水，扫地，擦玻璃，忙得不亦乐乎。“雷锋是所有中国人学习的榜样，我们也要学雷锋做好事。”来自哥伦比亚的高明从老师那里听说了雷锋的故事，赞叹不已。“帮助老人，我们很高兴。我们也想学雷锋，将雷锋精神传到我们的国家。”留学生还向老教师们学习下象棋，一个泰国留学生很快就学会了，并与老师竞技，这让在场的老师学生都惊讶万分。最后，他们一起陪同老人打乒乓球，赠送球拍、围棋、象棋。“我们已经很长时间没这么高兴过了，谢谢这群洋雷锋们！”一位老教授赞不绝口。 

 据悉，此次学雷锋，进社区由国际教育学院主办，旨在让留学生们更好地融入中国社会，了解中国文化。(翻译：汪智慧 尹新林）
