On January 14, 2015, Brazilian Science Beyond Boarders Program summing-up session for the first semester of 2014/2015 academic year was successfully held in HUST. 13 Brazilian students and relevant staff officers from International Student Office attended this meeting.

The meeting was started with a welcome speech given by Ms. Zhao Xiaofeng, vice dean of School of International Education, and she congratulated all the students who achieved very desirable results in this semester. “I’m extremely delighted to hear that all of you have achieved great progress in all the courses you have taken, despite the fact that learning majors in Chinese are incredibly difficult for any foreign student. I am hoping you can not only achieve academic progress during your study here, but also deep love with Chinese culture and friendship with Chinese people.” At the end of her speech, Ms. Zhao wished everyone happy new year, and achieve bigger success in the future.

Mr. Lan Hanghang, admission officer of International Student Office made a presentation on current student admission from South American countries, and future scholarship opportunities for Brazilian students. Ms. Yan Wei also made a brief conclusion for this semester and provided every student with a New Year gift made from Chinese traditional elements. Batista de Oliveira Vinicius, student from School of Mechanical Science and Engineering, was awarded with the honor of Student Ambassador, for his active contribution on communicating and promoting exchange between HUST and Brazilian students. “Thanks HUST for everything. We enjoyed our first semester very much. All my teachers are being great and we had a rich and valuable experience in HUST.” Vinicius expressed himself after the meeting.

Science Beyond Borders Program is a student studying abroad project issued by Brazilian Government in 2011. It aims at preparing talented personnel for the country by sending students aboard to further studies in world famous universities. In September 2014, HUST welcomed its first 18 students from this program and they are now doing majors in School of Energy and Power Engineering, School of Computer Science and Technology, Tongji Medical College, School of Mechanical Science and Engineering, and School of Economics.
